Fine art and valuables

Paintings, sculpture, instruments, idols and antiques. Anything a carton cannot protect gets a wooden crate built to its measurements, photographed before it is packed, and carried separately from the rest of your load.

What is actually included

Every line here is on your estimate, priced, before anyone arrives. Anything you do not want, you leave out.

  • Measured, then crated

Each piece is measured and a wooden crate is made for it, with foam or soft packing inside. A crate that fits is the whole point: movement inside the box is what causes damage.

  • Photographed as it stands

Condition photographs before packing, close enough to show existing marks. Nobody should be arguing after the move about a chip that was already there.

  • Face protection for canvas and glass

Glazed work gets taped and faced so a crack cannot travel into the surface. Unglazed canvas is never laid face down against anything.

  • Idols and temple items

Handled as you ask them to be handled. Tell us at the survey if a piece should travel upright, be wrapped in cloth rather than plastic, or go in a particular vehicle.

  • Instruments

Pianos, harmoniums and tabla sets are priced as their own job. A piano needs a crew, a route and sometimes a hoist, and that is decided before the date, not on it.

  • Carried separately

Crates go into the vehicle last and come out first, strapped and not stacked under general goods. On a long haul they can travel on their own trip.

How it runs

  1. We look at each piece

Dimensions, weight, how fragile and how it has to be oriented. Photographs at this stage too, since the crate is built from these measurements.

  2. Crates made and priced

One line per crate on the estimate, so you can see what each piece costs to protect and decide which items need it.

  3. Packed at your address

Faced, padded and crated in front of you, and the crate marked with what is inside and which way is up.

  4. Unpacked where it hangs

Opened at the new address, checked against the photographs, and where you want it placed or hung before the crew leaves.

What people are worried about

  • The price will go up on moving day

You get the price in writing, item by item, before we pack. Nothing is added later without asking you first.

  • Something will break

Fragile items are packed separately and written in your list. We also tell you what the insurance covers and what it does not.

  • The team will not come on time

You get your coordinator's mobile number when you book, and the team and the vehicle are confirmed one day before.

  • Nobody picks up after taking the advance

One coordinator stays with you from the survey till the last carton. One number, and a person picks up.
